Interview With A Genius
Holly Borowski 5 Comments »
This afternoon I got a chance to meet up with Miss Fantastic Holly Borowski. As many of you know, Holly has been riding in phenomenal form this season. Unfortunately, she was caught up in a nasty crash at the Merco Credit Union Cycling Classic Road Race on Sunday and suffered several injuries and a broken collar bone. She’s off the bike for now, but don’t worry, I know she’ll be back and in top form soon.
MYB: So Holly, is it really true that you are in a masters program for totally brilliant genius mathematicians.
HB: Yes, its true. I am in the masters program. Its for real.
MYB: How exactly do you spell mathematician?
HB: I don’t really know but I think its mathmitician. I was a math major, not English.
MYB: What happened in the crash at Merco?
HB: All I remember is that we were moving along kind of fast and it was in between attacks. I was over on the left and I didn’t have room to move around. All of a sudden the rider to my left started screaming at me to move over but I didn’t have anywhere to go. Somehow she locked handlebars and we all went down pretty hard. After I hit the ground, I just hoped no one else would run over me.
MYB: I saw one bike flying through the air after the crash – like an airplane. After witnessing this crash, I’d like to share a thought with some women: just cuz you suck it in, doesn’t mean your handlebars get any smaller.
HB: Yeah, my bike flew about 15 feet past me so that might have been mine. Luckily Mike Hernandez and Coach Mike were both there to help. It still took a long time time for the ambulance to come.
MYB: You actually had to go in the ambulance?
HB: Well the funny thing was that I wanted to take the ambulance to the hospital but they took me to start/finish. (MYB thought: WTF – I probably could have walked there?) I ended up going to the hospital in Los Gatos because the hospital in Merced was too crowded with other crash victims.
MYB: Man, that is rough. This was a violent weekend in Merced. Now I really love Merced actually. A liveley downtown, hot bike racers everywhere, and awesome Mexican food.
HB: I kind of do too. But this was my second weekend there so I was getting a little sick of it. There are a lot of great Mexican places to eat but I get a little tired of it.
MYB: Yeah, I know the feeling. I think I ate Maria’s Homemade Enchiladas (the hot-pink place downtown) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner two days in a row. Now I know you are in the military and that they really support your bike racing.
HB: I’m a first lieutenant.
MYB: Wow. I don’t know much about the air force, but I can tell thats pretty good. This picture is pretty scary and I am really glad we are friends.
WARNING FOR ALL BIKE RACING WOMEN: Don’t crash out Holly. She will f*#$!k you up.
