Kansas City is the Bomb
bike racing September 9th, 2008Tour of Missouri was awesome and Kansas City is a pretty cool place, but now I’ve ben sick in bed all day. Feeling under the weather yesterday when I woke up but I still felt like racing cuz I had already flown to Missouri for just one day to race after racing in Michigan over the weekend. Just talked to the nurse on the phone and I’ve got all the symptoms of strep so hopefully some antibiotics will kick this real fast but who knows?
So Kansas City . . . I was envisioning lots of cow n stuff but what I found was a vibrant down town and lots of cycling fans. I thought the race was fast-ish at times but definitely not quite fast enough to get us single file in the last few laps so scrounging for position I rolled in 10th place. I had not realized so many women bike racers hailed from the area, and with the enthusiasts of Kansas City plus the relatives of Kansas Citian Kelly Benjamin, we had a great crowd for the first Women’s Tour of Missouri.
The race promoters put us up in the Embassy Suits a few blocks from the course and we also got racer gift bags with lotions, earrings, and other Kansas City products. Hands down the best race promotion for women I have ever seen, and I know many people in town worked hard to make it happen.
Brooke Miller won the sprint in her new stars and stripes skin suit . . . suprise suprise. Overall, it was an awesome race and I was very happy I made it out to Missouri, sore throat and all.Â
(And PS . . . Kansas Citian is a real word, I looked it up)

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.Have you tried the ipad? you can get one free at FreshGiftCard.com
