This makes no sense
Kristy Gough, This makes no sense March 10th, 2008It breaks my heart to write this, but Kristy was so f’n cool, she was hit head on by a Sheriff’s Deputy yesterday while training and she didn’t make it. It absolutely breaks my heart. Kristy Gough was beyond cool, a pro and top finishing Ironman triathlete, and although she had tons of talent, she worked her ass off too - and she was fun.
And all I can think is why did this happen this makes no sense. I think I miss Kristy already.
Matt Peterson from the Roaring Mouse team was also struck and killed by the same car, and although I did not know him, I feel great sympathy for his friends and family.

It’s so weird waking up thinking about yesterday’s tragic event…I am still saddened.

You have my deepest sympathy.
I happened to ride past the scene of the accident immediately after the helicopter carried Kristy away. At the time, I did not know the identity of the victim. I followed all the news updates throughout the day. I feared that it was Kristy when the victim was described as a 30-year-old woman from Oakland. Then the Chronicle called asking for that photo that you posted.

I read about this in the morning when I woke up. Sal and I just rode there.
I’m so sorry - indeed, it makes no sense at all.

Just watching her race last weekend, and watching her interact with her Dolce Vita competitors gave me inspiring chills. She was an incredible human being.
